I was just sorting through a bunch of old CD’s when I came across one filled to the brim with Soundfonts - You know those magical files that are actually software instruments made up from samples - Well it turns out You can use Soundfonts in Garageband! Here’s how:
- Copy your soundfonts to “/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks” folder (It can be the one in your Home folder if you like)
- Goto Track info (create a new track first if you don’t have a spare one)
- Click the Details button (little triangle)
- Next to “Generator” choose “DLSMusicDevice”
- Click the Edit button (looks like a pencil)
- Next to “Sound bank” choose the Sound Font you just copied across
That’s it!! Simple stuff.
Now here’s a video of how to find all that stuff in GarageBand:
Hope it turns out ok, I recorded it in weird dimensions and YouTube makes anything look like shit… so I’m working against the grain here.
